Healthy Breakfast Ideas

They say “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”

and I have to admit… I agree 100%.

In fact, if it weren’t for healthy breakfast recipes I would’ve never been able to make this body transformation:
healthy breakfast ideas

It’s so important to kick your day off with a top notch nutritious breakfast.

And honestly, it’s as easy as having a few “go to” healthy breakfast ideas on tap in your knowledge bank, and I’m about to give you a few ideas in just a moment.

But first, lets think about the word breakfast for a moment and what it really means…

“Break Fast”.

The word itself literally spells out “break your 8 hour fast”. (you get the idea)

So what’s the big deal?

Well, for one, eating a breakfast will kickstart your metabolism for the day, which just so happens to be super important for fat loss.

Eating a meal early in the morning after fasting through the night (assuming you aren’t sleep walking to the fridge) will kick your metabolism back into gear and cause it to start working again.

But you don’t want to eat just anything for breakfast…

Not to function optimally anyway.

Eating a healthy breakfast is critical to give your body fuel for the day.

One of the worst ways you can start your day is by pumping it full of garbage food that robs you of your vitality for the day. (ie: donuts, pasties, and highly processed “food”)

So what are some healthy breakfast ideas that can help you start your day off on the right foot?

Well, if you have time to watch a few minute video, this breakfast burrito is one of my personal favorite healthy breakfast ideas:

For those of you that prefer text format this is currently my favorite breakfast recipe:

Healthy Breakfast Ideas – #1 – A Basic Breakfast Burrito.

It consists of Eggs, Lean Chicken Breast, a tortilla wrap, (ideally whole wheat), and if you must you can add a little cheese (but cheese is NOT healthy!)

This is personally one of my favorite healthy breakfast ideas because it tastes great, and it’s quick and easy to make.

I usually make my breakfast burrito like this:

  • Two or three whole eggs
  • 4-6 egg whites (the whites contain protein only, the yellow has all the fat)
  • Lean chicken breast (pre-cooked and stored)
  • 1 or 2 tortilla wraps (whole wheat)

healthy breakfast ideas with egg and chickenIf you want to get fancy and make this breakfast burrito even more healthy, consider adding vegetables to it.

Red peppers and tomatoes add a lot of flavor and health benefits.

But to be honest, I usually don’t take the time to chop up veggies and add them to this recipe. (in an ideal world I’d do it every morning though!)

With this basic healthy breakfast idea you’ll be getting a healthy dose of protein (the building blocks of life), some carbs (fuel for the day), and a little fat too.

Ideally, you want to keep the fat down (in my personal experience) if you want to get lean and reduce your body fat. (especially saturated fat!)

So how to do you keep the fat content down in this healthy breakfast recipe?

Simple. Just remove the yellows of the egg, and don’t add cheese (or if you do add cheese keep it to a minimum).

If you’re serious about eating healthy, I recommend you buy a food scale (this is the one I use). They cost less than the last bag of chips you bought, and you’ll have this tool forever.

This way you’ll know how much cheese (and anything else) you’re eating every day.

Think about it…

When you look at the nutrition facts of anything, it’s telling you the numbers for one serving.

How the heck are you supposed to know what one serving is if you don’t have a food scale?

Using a food scale on a regular basis will help you measure and track your calorie intake, whether it’s for your healthy breakfast ideas or any other meal of the day. And they say “what get’s measured gets managed” – which I personally have found to be very true in my own life.

Also by using a food scale you’ll learn to “eyeball it” fairly accurately over time.

For example, after you use the food scale to weigh various foods for a month or two, you’ll easily be able to identify how many grams of food you are eating while out at a restaurant. You’ll also be able to ballpark how many grams of Fat, Protein, and Carbs are in pretty much any meal you eat without even looking at the food’s nutrition facts.

It’ll also keep your mind more aware of nutrition in general, which I can promise you can only help you achieve your personal health goals.

If you like this recipe and you want more similar to it, you might like the Fat Burning Machine diet. It’s a top seller on and it’s gotten a lot of good reviews so far.

Healthy Breakfast Ideas – #2 – Oats + Protein Shake

This second breakfast idea may be particularly appealing to those of you who need to make something fast, or if you need to eat on the go.

This Oats and Protein shake one of my “go to” healthy breakfast ideas I use daily, and I usually drink it about thirty minutes or an hour after my first meal.

I personally I use uncooked Quaker Oatmeal oats, not that there’s anything wrong with cooking your oatmeal. I simply find it time consuming and stomach-filling to cook oatmeal then eat it. It takes me a long time to make it, and then it’s hot, and then I usually have a hard time eating it all since it’s so filling.

I find it much easier to just blend some oats with some protein powder to get some quality calories in quickly.

healthy breakfast ideas oatsOats are a great source of carbohydrates to fuel you through the day.

Oats have a low glycemic index, so they aren’t going to spike your blood sugar levels and they won’t be stored as fat immediately.

These are the kind of carbs that your body can use to fuel itself throughout the day.

You can use oats as a primary ingredient in many different healthy breakfast ideas. You don’t have to blend them either, cooking them will give you the same health benefits.

Typically what I do is take 2 servings of Oats (80 grams) and throw it in the blender with some water and 1 scoop of Vega Sport Vegetarian Protein.

healthy breakfast ideas protein powderI’ve been using Vega Sport protein powder for almost 1 year now (at the time of this writing).

I like it because it’s low fat, there’s almost no carbohydrates in it, and you get 25 grams of protein per a serving…

but it’s not just any ol’ protein.

As the name implies, it’s vegetarian protein, composed of Pea protein, saviseed protein, sprouted whole grain brown rice protein, and alfalfa protein – all of which are very healthy sources of nutrition.

And to put the cherry on top, Vega Sport also has amino acids (BCAA’s) added to it!

Vega Sport vegetarian protein powder may cost a bit more than the average product you’ll find on the shelf, but it’s worth every penny. To help me save money I buy Vega Sport protein on because it’s almost always way cheaper (in the neighborhood of 50% less) there than GNC or any other local shops. (I actually have it on autoship straight from Amazon monthly)

This is the best protein I’ve ever had in terms of lack of side effects, helping me get lean and stay lean, and the flavor (the chocolate flavor tastes way better than vanilla in my opinion).

It has never once upset my stomach (unlike typical whey proteins powders), and I’ve never gotten the runs from it.

Like I said, I’ve been taking this protein daily for almost a full year now. I don’t think I’ll ever switch back to a non-vegan protein powder!

Making a quick shake with oats and quality protein powder is one of the quickest and easiest healthy breakfast ideas I’ve got for you.

If you want to try this healthy breakfast shake, be sure to use cold water (preferably not tap water) because you’ll need to run the blender for at least 30 seconds to completely liquefy the oats. The high speed blades will heat up the water a bit as they spin and shred the oats (all the friction). So use cold water unless you want a hot shake!
